The 1954 Seminar consisted of six lectures delivered at the Aula Magna of the Royal University of Malta, i.e.

Monday, 22nd November, 1954: "The Year 1850 in the History of Primary Education in Malta", by Mr. J. Zammit Mangion.
Wednesday, 24th November, 1954: "I Frati Minori Conventuali durante l'Occupazione Francese", by Fr. Bonaventura Fiorini, O.F.M.Conv.
Friday, 26th November, 1954: "The Dominican University of S. Maria Porto Salvo", by Fr. Andrew Vella, O.P.
Monday, 29th November, 1954: "Malta in the Seven Years' War", by Mr. Roderick Cavaliero.
Wednesday, 1st December, 1954: "Il Preti Architetto", by Chev. V.zo Bonello.
Friday, 3rd December, 1954: "Trial by Jury in Malta during the 19th Century", by Dr. Hugh Harding.


On the 9th May, 1955, the tercentenary of the death of Giovanni Francesco Abela, Father of Maltese Historiography, members of the Committee and of other cultural bodies foregathered in the corridor near the Cemetery of St. John's, walked to the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament where the President laid a wreath of laurel on Abela's tomb. On the 15th June, 1955 a musico-literary evening was held at the Manoel Theatre where the following lectures were delivered before a select audience:

"The Life and Career of Abela", by Mr. E. R. Leopardi.
"Il valore storico dell'opera di G. F. Abela", by Mgr. A. Bonnici.
"G. F. Abela studjui tal-antikitajiet", by Mr. R. Bonnici-Cali.
Music was played by the "Isouard Orchestra" conducted by Mro. C. Pace.


8th February, 1-9-55. The twentieth general meeting of the Society was held. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed the President, Mgr. A. Bonnici, read his report on the work of the Society during 1954, The Hon. Treasurer gave his report on the Society's finances during the year. -

The election of the Committee for 1935 was then held. Mgr. A. Bonnici was confirmed as Chairman by acclamation. The following members were elected: Dr. J. Galea, Mr. E.R. Leopardi, Mr. J. Cassar Pulicino, Chev. V.zo Bonello, Prof. W. Ganado, Dr. A. Ganado, Prof. Can. E. Coleiro and Fr. A. Vella, O.P.

The meeting was adjourned sine die.
